Dear Parents,
I know many of our 5th grade students are nervous about middle school and that is completely normal. In a regular year they would have visited the building with their school on transition day and with you on 5th grade parent night.
Please don't worry, we still have a couple of more opportunities to give them a smooth landing in 6th grade. Our transition camp will be held from July 28-30th. We have sent home information fliers with all of the students. They should have come home in their backpack.
If you didn't get one, we have them available at Madison. The cost of camp is $10. Either drop off or mail the registration to our front office C/O Bev Smith.
Transition camp will give them opportunities to get to know the building, lockers, and teachers. They will take scavenger hunts, meet students from other schools and get organized.
I have found that students who attend transition camp are much less anxious about starting middle school than those that do not attend.
If Covid restrictions continue to get back to normal, you will have other opportunities to walk around the school after registration. The days before school starts we will let you come in and walk the halls, try out lockers, and find classes.
Our desire is for your child to confidently walk into middle school and be excited about their learning experiences.
Have a good end to your elementary school year and I look forward to meeting each one of you.
